Home Energy Rebate Programs

AHFC Home Energy Rebates Overwhelmingly Popular

The Alaska Housing Finance Corporation Home Energy Rebate Program aids Alaskan homeowners in bringing down the high cost of heating their homes.

The Home Energy Rebate Program, approved in April 2008, provides homeowners with rebates for specific energy-efficiency improvements, which can include garage door replacement. The more a home’s efficiency improves, the greater the rebate, up to a maximum of $10,000.

The program requires a certified home energy rating before and after improvements. The cost of the ratings are covered by AHFC, up to a total of $500 per home.  Qualified energy raters, which are privately owned businesses, are critical to providing the information and projecting the savings of energy improvements.

The original $100 million, for what was intended to be a five-year program, is quickly being used.  An additional $60 million was approved to help carry the program into next year.
